Mint Hill resident holds would-be thief at gunpoint
A Mint Hill man held a would-be thief at gunpoint while waiting for police to arrive Saturday night, Mint Hill Police Lt. John Rowell said.
Rowell said Ron Eberwin was at his house late Saturday when he caught a man trying to break into his U-Haul, which was parked on the property.
Eberwin “saw him attempting to break into the U-Haul and held him at gunpoint until police got there,” Rowell said. “We think it was an attempted – there was no chance to steal anything.”
Police arrested Chandler Mitchell, 23, of Mint Hill, Rowell said.
According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office website, Mitchell was charged with a misdemeanor probation violation and felony breaking or entering of a motor vehicle.
Rowell said both Eberwin and Mitchell live in properties on the same lot in the 9900 block of Heathergate Lane.
“There’s two structures on that property, a house and a garage that a gentleman rents out,” he said.
