Man arrested in 5 Charlotte store robberies
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with five recent store robberies.
Police on Wednesday charged Alex Arnez Jones with robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping. Jones was in the Mecklenburg County jail on $225,000 bail Thursday.
The first robbery happened about noon Nov. 17 at Boost Mobile in the 3600 block of Central Avenue, police said.
The second robbery happened about 8:45 that night at Fuel Mart in the 5000 block of North Tryon Street. The next hold-up occurred about 30 minutes later at Subway in the 6100 block of South Boulevard.
About 10:40 a.m. Saturday, Beautiful Hair in the 1700 block of Central Avenue was robbed. At 9:15 a.m. Monday, I Beauty 210 was robbed in the 4800 block of North Tryon Street.
Police released video surveillance images to the media this week showing the man they believed was responsible for the robberies. The photos showed a man in a black-and-gray coat or hoodie, gray beanie, dark shirt and jeans. He had a black backpack.
Police said the investigation is still active and encourage anyone with information about Jones or the cases to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
