A couple out for a Christmas walk at RibbonWalk Nature Preserve on Nevin Road discovered a body floating in the pond.

Nine people who had been out for walks were briefly detained for questioning. But it appeared the body had been in the water for a long time.

Divers pulled the body out.

Claire Atkins-Davis and her fiance, Tommy Wingfield, were walking their two dogs and Wingfield said, “Look, there’s a dead goose.”

But on closer inspection, they realized it was a body. They called 911.

First responders at the scene declined comment, but homicide detectives were called.
