1 shot dead in west Charlotte early Thursday

A man is dead and another seriously wounded after a shooting in west Charlotte early Thursday.

Police said the man who died, Angelo Eugene Jackson, 30, was shot after he and another male suspect entered a home in the 900 block of State Street, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said. State Street is off Tuckaseegee Road.

Police said a struggle broke out, then shots were fired.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they are searching for the second assailant who entered the home. Police have not released his name.

A second male was shot during the encounter and taken to Carolinas Medical Center with a serious injury, police said. Police haven’t released his name, either.

Police said the shootings were not random acts of violence, as everyone knew each other. The incident happened shortly after midnight.

Officers were canvassing the area for witnesses.
