Man charged with killing Amanda Strous in custody in Mecklenburg County

A man accused of killing a college counselor and soon-to-be bride has been extradited to the Mecklenburg County Jail from Nevada, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Monday.

Matthew Benner, 28, will face charges in the June 18 death of Amanda Strous at apartment in southwest Charlotte.

Authorities found Strous, 27, dying in a burning apartment. They believe the blaze was intentionally set.

Investigators tracked Benner to the Las Vegas area, where he was arrested June 20 and kept behind bars. Police say Benner has confessed to killing Strous.
