Police: Midnight Diner disturbance leads to shooting, car stuck on light-rail tracks

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police believe a verbal argument that began at the Midnight Diner near uptown Charlotte early Monday led to a shooting nearby, with a car ending up on the light-rail tracks to avoid gunfire.

The car crashed on the tracks about 2:40 a.m. near 124 E. Tremont Ave., said police Capt. J. Thomas.

“The person left the Midnight Diner and, for some reason, someone decided to start following them and shooting at them,” Thomas said.

“To get away, they took a wrong turn down the tracks.”

But at least one bullet struck the car, Thomas said. No injuries were reported and police have not released any suspect description at this time.
