Beverly Woods Elementary earns federal blue ribbon award
Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Beverly Woods Elementary was one of three North Carolina schools awarded the 2015 “blue ribbon school” distinction Tuesday.
The U.S. Department of Education honored 285 public schools and 50 private schools across the country for high achievement or closing gaps between groups of students. Beverly Woods, in south Charlotte, fell into the high-performing group, which meant it was in the top 15 percent in North Carolina.
The two other N.C. schools honored are in Beaufort and Wilson counties.
The Department of Education will hold a recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C., in November.
