Gov. Pat McCrory not planning to attend GOP convention

North Carolina’s highest-profile Republican doesn’t plan to attend the party’s national convention this month, a spokesman said Friday.

Ricky Diaz said Gov. Pat McCrory will instead be campaigning in North Carolina.

McCrory did not attend the party’s last convention, which was held less than three months before he was elected.

Republicans kick off their convention in Cleveland on July 18. Donald Trump is the party’s presumptive nominee.
