A Charlotte police officer will not face charges in the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s office said after an SBI investigation. Death of Keith Scott sparked violent riots, peaceful demonstrations and large protests.

Will Charlotte courts have mercy on arrested protesters?

More than 100 court cases are pending and dozens of arrest warrants are unserved from protests last week over a police-shooting death in Charlotte. Police arrested 82 people in a week’s time, as thousands of protesters flooded parks, streets and even highways around the city. Their charges range from curfew violations and burglary to assaults on police and the murder of a 26-year-old protester.

Historian: Roots of Charlotte’s protests can be traced to city’s past

Brenda Tindal, staff historian at Charlotte’s Levine Museum of the New South, spoke Wednesday night to a standing-room-only crowd of about 100. She said most of the answers to questions about last week’s protests can be found in the city’s own history, from the urban renewal that uprooted historic black neighborhoods in the 1960s and ‘70s to now-nearly-forgotten police shootings of black motorists in the 1990s.
