Hot-shooting Heels run away from Western Carolina

Western Carolina will always have those first five points.

The Catamounts did lead No. 11 North Carolina on Wednesday night, for 3 minutes and 21 seconds anyway.

Luke Maye had 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Tar Heels to a runaway 104-61 home win over Western Carolina.

The Tar Heels made 16 3-pointers (on 22 attempts), which equals the most they have made under coach Roy Williams.

Junior guard Kenny Williams scored 13 points, all in the first half, and freshman guard Jalek Felton added a season-high 15 points and five assists.

WCU (3-7) got layup from Haboubacar Mutombo and a 3-pointer from Marc Gosselin in the first 54 seconds of the game to take a 5-0 lead.

It was pretty much all downhill from there. UNC used a 20-0 run to take control of the game and head into the exam break with fourth straight win and ninth in 10 games.

The Tar Heels, after playing seven games in 14 days, now will get some time off. Their next game is Dec. 17 at Tennessee.
