Record-setting Quavaris Crouch of Harding High among Observer players of the week

Quavaris Crouch, Harding: Gained 334 yards on 21 carries in a 36-7 victory over East Forsyth. Crouch also had a sack. It was the 14th-best single-game rushing performance in Mecklenburg County history. For the season, Crouch has 2,880 yards and 31 touchdowns. That’s the third-most single-season rushing yards in county history behind Charlotte Catholic’s Elijah Hood. Hood ran for 3,309 in 2012, his junior season. He had 3,609 as a senior in 2013.
Knowledge Gainey, Mallard Creek: Caught a 57-yard, game-winning, fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Jadyn Washington in a 9-5 come-from-behind win over Greensboro Page.
Sam Howell, Sun Valley: Led his team to an upset of Winston-Salem Mount Tabor. Howell threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 72 yards and another score.
Derion Kendrick, Rock Hill South Pointe: Accounted for more than 400 total yards and seven touchdowns in Friday’s 67-21 victory over Greer in the S.C. 4A semifinals. He had 162 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He completed 16-of-21 passes for 240 yards and two more scores.
Jarrett Nagy, Nolan Groulx, Hough: Nagy had 25 carries for 167 yards and three touchdowns in a 39-17 victory over Myers Park. Groulx caught nine passes for 121 yards and a score.
Chase Orrock, Que Reid, Concord Robinson: Orrock was 10-for-17 for 196 yards passing and four touchdowns in a 47-46 overtime victory over Kings Mountain. Reid had 149 yards rushing and a score.
