Clemson recruit Hunter Tyson among Charlotte Observer HS basketball player of the week
Erin Cepeda, Fort Mill Comenius girls: 34 points, seven rebounds, three steals against Durham Mount Zion Saturday. She made eight 3-point shots.
Adrian Delph, Kings Mountain: 38 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 90-40 win over Lawndale Burns Friday. He made 7-of-10 3-point attempts.
Jordan McLaughlin, Berry girls: 31 points with six rebounds in a 54-52 upset over former Sweet 16 No. 1 Ardrey Kell in overtime Friday. Berry ended Ardrey Kell’s 17-game win streak.
Madison Monroe, SouthLake Christian: 34 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and two assists for Monroe, an Army recruit, in a 76-74 overtime win over Hickory Grove Friday.
Ahlana Smith, Mallard Creek girls: UCLA recruit had 32 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists in a 61-52 win over North Meck Friday. She made 10-of-12 free throws.
Hunter Tyson, Unionville Piedmont: scored 42 points in a win over Monroe Parkwood last Tuesday to pass both the 2,000-point mark for his career and become Union County’s all-time leading scorer (2,011 points). He broke the 38-year-old record held by Sun Valley’s Shawn Stewart.
Kaitlin Walker, Charlotte Christian girls: 28 points, 17 rebounds in a 68-45 win over SouthLake Christian Saturday. It was Walker’s 13th double-double of the season. The 28 points was a season and career-high.
