Central Academy’s Elijah Inuwa sets 800-meter record at NCHSAA 2A track meet

Central Academy’s Elijah Inuwa won the 800-meter championship in record time at the N.C. 2A track and field championships Saturday in Greensboro.

Inuwa, a senior, ran the 800 in 1:51.70 at N.C. A&T to easily beat Franklin’s Caleb Albrecht and set a meet record. Albrecht finished in 1:56.62. Inuwa also won gold with Central Academy’s 3,200-meter relay team, running with Jeremy Fehlman, Quay Threatt and Jesse Ballew.

Burlington Cummings won the girls’ state title with 72 points. Carrboro (66) was second. Newton-Conover (24) was sixth and Lake Norman Charter (20) finished 10th. Cummings won its 12th state title since 1987.

North Brunswick won the boys’ team title (53 points). Bunn (37) was second and Bunker Hill (35.5) third. Central Academy was fifth (30), Forest Hills (26) was ninth and Shelby (25) was 10th.
