Providence Day’s Grant Williams will play basketball for Tennessee
Providence Day power forward Grant Williams signed a men’s basketball scholarship to play for Tennessee Friday morning in the school’s packed auditorium.
Williams, a 6-foot-7 senior, led the Chargers to the N.C. Independent Schools semifinals last season when he averaged 18 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 2.7 assists.
Williams made the Associated Press all-state team and was co-Observer Player of the Year with Ardrey Kell’s Steven Santa Ana, now a freshman at Elon.
Williams, who chose the Volunteers over Ivy League schools Princeton and Yale, had more than 30 Division I scholarship offers.
Also signing at Providence Day were girls’ track star Anna Cockrell (Southern Cal) and top 50 national recruit Erin Whalen, a member of the girls’ basketball team. She signed with Vanderbilt.
