Trying to “buy” fouls: The big thing, lately, in high school ball is to jump into the defense, yell “Aye!” and wait for the whistle. I asked three officials Tuesday if the “Aye!” had any influence. They all smiled and said, “No.” One said the yell might make him less likely to blow the whistle.

On-time game times: One staple of the Hoodies House events are good crowds and great talent. Another? The tournament almost always stays on schedule.

Grant Williams, Providence Day: Tennessee recruit delivered the winning bucket for the Chargers with 1.4 seconds left in a 62-60 upset of nationally ranked Wheeler (Ga.). Williams finished with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Providence Day opportunity: Since the tournament adopted a national bracket in 2001, no local team has won the national field championship. Providence Day will have a shot Wednesday night, facing Georgia power Norcross at 9:15.
