Dell Curry has been synonymous with the Charlotte Hornets since the original franchise’s inception in 1988.

Now the current Hornets are putting him to work full time.

Curry, 50, has accepted a position with the franchise as Hornets ambassador and special-projects advisor. In addition, he will continue as on-air analyst for Fox on Hornets game telecasts on SportSouth.

Hornets president Fred Whitfield and chief marketing officer Pete Guelli approached Curry with the job offer. The intent was to use him as a resource throughout the franchise, whether it be helping general manager Rich Cho, coach Steve Clifford or the marketing department.

"I’m pretty much at everyone’s disposal," Curry described of his new job. "Whether it’s working with Rich Cho or marketing or social media. This position doesn’t isolate me to any one department."

The Currys continued living in Charlotte year-round after Dell left the Hornets after 10 seasons to play for the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors. He is still the Hornets’ career leader in games played (701) and points scored (9,839). In the 27 years since the Hornets selected him in the expansion draft, he’s developed a brand of sorts in Charlotte.

"Absolutely I do," Curry said when asked about that brand. "I’ve been here over 25 years. I consider myself a Charlottean and I think others identify me that way.

"I think this position will be a win for everybody. I’ll have input in so many different areas and I appreciate the team feels I can continue helping the Hornets’ brand."
