Panthers QB Cam Newton visits family of Charleston shooting victim
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton spent part of his Monday in Charleston meeting with the family of one of the victims in last week’s shooting.
In pictures uploaded to Twitter and Instagram, Newton is shown Monday afternoon meeting Chris Singleton, a Charleston Southern baseball player whose mother, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, was among nine shot and killed last week at Emanuel AME Church.
Rashard Alston, a linebacker for Newberry College, posted a picture on Twitter of himself and Newton with Singleton on Monday. Singleton also posted a picture on Instagram.
“Thank you @cameron1newton for coming out to my house and hanging with me and my family. #CharlestonStrong,” Singleton wrote.
Big ups to my man @CameronNewton for reaching out to me and coming to pay his respects to my bro! #ClassAct pic.twitter.com/JfYm0IJw3A
— Rashard Alston (@shadxavier5) June 22, 2015The trip by Newton comes just days after Panthers owner/founder Jerry Richardson donated $100,000 to the nine victims’ families and the church.
Newton is one of several celebrities who have met with families or been part of rallies in Charleston during the past week. Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard also has been one of the most visible celebrities in the city this past week.
