Panthers DC Sean McDermott will interview with Browns on Sunday
Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott’s interview with Cleveland officials for the Browns’ head coaching vacancy has been moved to Sunday in Charlotte, according to league sources.
McDermott initially was scheduled to meet with the Browns on Thursday night, but it was changed due to travel arrangements, sources said.
Carolina general manager Dave Gettleman said Thursday he has spoken to other teams about McDermott, but only the Browns had set up an interview.
McDermott, 41, has overseen a top-10 defense each of the past four years. The Panthers led the NFL with 39 takeaways during the regular season.
McDermott, the former Eagles assistant, interviewed with Washington two years ago and was scheduled to visit with the Jets last year before Todd Bowles was hired.
The Browns fired Mike Pettine this week after two losing seasons. Cleveland already has interviewed Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase, Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and Jacksonville assistant Doug Marrone, the former head coach for the Buffalo Bills and Syracuse.
The Browns also have set interviews with Cowboys secondary coach Jerome Henderson for Friday in Dallas, and Bengals coordinators Hue Jackson and Paul Guenther for Sunday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia also will talk with the Browns, the Plain Dealer reported.
