Carolina Panthers receiver Devin Funchess scores twice on deep passes
Perhaps no one at Wofford College is having a better training camp for the Panthers than second-year receiver Devin Funchess.
He stood out again Saturday when he brought in two deep passes that went for touchdowns during 9-on-9s.
“It’s a reflection of the way he’s been practicing and playing,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. “He’s done some really nice things and you see the growth. It’s exciting to watch him out there.”
Quarterback Cam Newton hit Funchess for a deep play in the first-team period after Funchess slipped inside of cornerback Daryl Worley. The rookie cornerback gave chase, but Funchess got into the end zone for the score.
The next one came from quarterback Derek Anderson. Funchess raced by safety Marcus Ball for the wide-open touchdown. That prompted Newton to run down the field into the end zone and celebrate with the receiver.
