Deadspin takes dead aim at the Carolina Panthers – and sometimes the jokes hurt
The Carolina Panthers landed smack dab in the bulls-eye of the popular Internet destination Deadspin.com Monday morning.
The headline? “Why Your Team Sucks 2017: Carolina Panthers.” Now, Deadspin takes these type of satirical shots at pro teams and even pro teams columnists from time-to-time. About 11 years ago, Deadspin took a swipe at the Observer columnist Scott Fowler; and in the past week, it’s taken aim at the pro football teams from Los Angeles, New York and Jacksonville.
So the Panthers shouldn’t feel isolated or anything.
Writer Drew Magary does get in his share of shots at Jerry Richardson’s favorite team, however. A sampling:
▪ ”Who would have a guessed a team coached by Ron Rivera and dependent on its QB for 99 percent of its yardage would IMMEDIATELY regress back to the mean after a fluke 15-1 season? I could’ve made more money betting on that than betting on Mayweather.”
▪ He notes the Panthers “cut Bene’ Benwikere after Julio Jones racked up 300 yards receiving against them. Good job letting Josh Norman walk.”
▪ He calls Rivera a “gloried Best Buy manager,” and claims that Charlotte – the largest and most boring town in North Carolina – is “a bank branch someone made into a whole city.”
So click here to read the whole thing. Some of the language is NSFW and some of the zingers may sting, but, hey you may get a chuckle or two while reading as well.
It’s just jokes, right?
