Panthers’ QB Cam Newton gets social media excited with quick TD drive vs. Jaguars
It didn’t take long for Cam Newton to come onto the field for his first action of the 2017 NFL season.
The Panthers took the opening kick in Jacksonville, and Newton was on the field at 7:37 p.m.. His first play in the “evolved” offense? A read option handoff to Jonathan Stewart. Newton tested his surgically repaired shoulder later in the opening drive. After six straight runs, Newton threw a short pass to Christian McCaffrey. His second? A quick slant to Kelvin Benjamin for a touchdown.

Newton did not hold onto the ball long on either attempt. Both passes were on time and accurate.
Carolina’s offense looked sharp. Twitter was pleased. And that’s a good thing, because Cam was done after the one series.
Cam Newton leads #CarolinaPanthers to TD on his first plays from scrimmage this year. Not bad.

Newton was in good spirits, showcasing some dance steps on the sidelines late in the game, and taking off for a big celebratory leap after a Panthers interception in the second half.
