Eagle named after Rory McIlroy released at Quail Hollow
For Rory McIlroy, the eagle has landed at Quail Hollow Club.
Earlier this year, the Carolina Raptor Center released a rehabilitated, young bald eagle at Quail Hollow and named the bird ‘Rory’ in honor of the two-time winner of the Wells Fargo Championship.
“It’s cool,” McIlroy said. “This is a place with great memories for me since 2010. It’s always nice to have your name on the board here as champion and now it’s nice to have something outside as well.”
Two bald eagles already lived at Quail Hollow and now there is a third. The young bird – Patient 19288 at the Carolina Raptor Center – was admitted on Dec. 26, 2015, after being found in Hendersonville. The eagle was diagnosed with emaciation, a broken wing and lead poisoning.
It was released at Quail Hollow on March 31.
