Who’s going to win at Quail Hollow?
The Observer’s coverage team of Scott Fowler, Ron Green Jr., Jonathan Jones, Joseph Person and David Scott predict the winner of this week’s Wells Fargo Championship:
SCOTT FOWLER
Rory McIlroy: After that incredible 61 on Saturday last year that keyed a seven-shot win for the two-time Wells Fargo champ, picking anyone else for 2016 seems like wishful thinking.
RON GREEN JR.
Patrick Reed: He has four top-10s in his past five starts, including a second in his most recent start. He’s ready to win again, and he’s due.
JONATHAN JONES
J.B. Holmes: The 2014 champion hasn’t enjoyed a PGA Tour win in more than a year. But he has three top-10s this season, including a tie for fourth at the Masters. He should take full advantage of Quail Hollow’s four par-5s.
JOSEPH PERSON
Henrik Stenson: The Swede tied for 58th last year in Charlotte, his best finish in five Wells Fargo appearances. But Stenson has two top-3s in seven events this season and is due for a victory.
DAVID SCOTT
Adam Scott: I see Scott Fowler isn’t picking Rickie Fowler, which he usually does only because of the last name. I would never stoop to something as cheap as that.
