Cabinet maker to bring over 250 jobs, invest $86 million in facility near Charlotte
A cabinet maker is investing $86 million in a Concord facility at the old Philip Morris site and bringing 257 jobs, the North Carolina Department of Commerce announced Tuesday.
GoldenHome International Inc., a subsidiary of a Chinese company, is opening a North American headquarters on the site, lured by $3.2 million in incentives from the state, Cabarrus County and the city. The Observer reported in February that a cabinet manufacturer was eyeing the property.
The company makes high-end kitchen cabinets and customized furnishings. The facility that formerly was the home of the long-time cigarette manufacturing giant, covers 500 acres.
It will base production, business operations, research and development, distribution, marketing and training at the Concord location.
The jobs will pay an average salary of $42,593 per year, according to the N.C. Commerce Department. They will begin hiring in 2021 for the positions, which include executives, interior designers, IT, sales and production operators. The project is expected to be complete in 2025.
The Philip Morris cigarette manufacturing facility shuttered after its parent company announced in 2007 it would close the plant and consolidate work in Virginia. The move impacted 2,500 Concord employees.
Investment company Bootsmead LeaseCo LLC announced last year it would demolish the buildings on the property, and is rebranding it as the “Grounds at Concord.”
Last year, online used car retailer Carvana said it would invest $30 million to bring an auto facility to the site, creating over 400 jobs.
