Core: Fundamentals Only
Core is the most affordable package; however, that also means it’s the most threadbare of the options. Luckily, though, threadbare is elevated here, with complete question bank access, digital textbooks focused on the CFA curriculum, visual metrics tracking, a mobile app, and UWorld’s proprietary MyNotebook feature.
Perfect Fit: If tests are a breeze for you, chances are, you can pass with the Core Package alone. Otherwise, I’d recommend choosing one of the other options.
Advanced: The Standard Fare
Advanced is the most even-keeled of the trio, and I think it’s enough for the average CFA candidate to pass the exam. However, it relies heavily on self-study materials, so it’s best for those who can self-motivate. I appreciated how the digital textbook was broken down into LOS-aligned chunks, each one directly connected to relevant practice questions. This made it easier to review weak spots without aimlessly flipping through hundreds of pages.
Over the course of my testing, I tracked my progress through UWorld’s SmartPath™ tool, which showed where I was excelling and where I needed work, based on both my accuracy and timing. The visual dashboards broke it down by section (like Ethics or Financial Reporting), which helped me avoid over-studying the areas I already knew. The biggest value here is how everything is tied together. You’re not left guessing what to do next.
But don’t expect a hand-holding experience. UWorld is primarily self-paced, and in the Core and Advanced packages, there’s no live support. You’ll need to build your own routine, but the framework is strong enough to support that.

However, in the Elite Package, you get access to live 2-day bootcamps and live Q&A sessions with instructors. I joined a session led by a CFA charterholder focused on portfolio management. Kaplan Schweser CFA tend to be focused on more. More practice questions, more video lectures, more study notes. There isn’t a speck of surface-level material to be found in any of Kaplan’s materials. However, that does come with an increased price tag.
Meanwhile, UWorld is a little more efficient and modern. Rather than giving you a lot, UWorld gives you a bit less, but makes it harder. The result is a more streamlined process, focusing on the need-to-knows and saving some time and money in the process.
- Pick Kaplan Schweser if you want the deepest library of materials, value instructor-led learning, and don’t mind investing extra time (and money) for thoroughness.
- Pick UWorld if you want a faster-moving, visually modern experience that challenges you just enough without being overwhelming.
UWorld vs. AnalystPrep
UWorld lies in the sweet spot among the top CFA exam prep courses; AnalystPrep, however, has carved out a niche as an affordable option.
AnalystPrep owns the “budget-friendly course” spot, featuring a bundle of all three CFA level prep courses for a price that’s lower than a single level for competing courses. You’re not getting the same amount of content, but there is a lot of bang for your buck.
Meanwhile, UWorld is more expensive, but they make up for it in both quality and quantity. It isn’t that AnalystPrep is bad, because they’re actually excellent; it’s that UWorld brings prep to another level with exam-quality questions, entertaining lectures, and refined tech features.
- Pick AnalystPrep if you’re looking for a budget-conscious option with lifetime access and still want solid content across all three levels.
- Pick UWorld if you want sharper video production, tougher questions, a more immersive platform, and don’t mind paying extra for premium polish.
