Charlotte cidery closing: ‘COVID took its toll on the entire world’
Charlotte cidery GoodRoad CiderWorks is closing its doors for good after this weekend.
The LoSo cidery cited hurdles that exist in the craft beverage world combined with difficulties from the pandemic.
“COVID took its toll on the entire world and we have not been able to overcome the additional impact it had on us as well,” stated an Instagram letter signed by Brian Beauchemin, Rick Benfield, Kevin Martin and the entire GoodRoad team.
The cidery will host “one last blowout of ciders and meads” this weekend before shutting its doors for good. Expect some cellar-aged favorites to return on draft.
“This decision comes after many discussions and with great heartburn, but at the end of the day is the right one,” the post stated.
GoodRoad opened in 2017 and was Charlotte’s second cidery, following Red Clay Ciderworks, which opened in July 2015.
