Dilworth Coffee: In case you think this town only has Starbucks and Amelie’s, you’ll be fascinated with the news that Dilworth Coffee is opening its fifth shop on Saturday, across from the Siskey YMCA in Matthews.

First Ward Park: The park sandwiched among Time Warner Arena, ImaginOn and the UNCC Center City building is on schedule to open in November. Eventually apartments will wrap around the parking deck.

Temp space for artists: The empty Goodyear on S. Tryon Street will be reopened as temporary space for artists. Eventually, Crescent Resources will demolish the building to make room for a 27-story office tower.

Rotten bananas?: The Charlotte Business Journal reports that long-gone Chiquita hasn’t paid back $1 million in economic incentives like it was supposed to do. Check’s in the mail?

Gabe’s: More news for the U-City area. Discount retailer Gabe’s just opened a 50K-square-foot store off University City Boulevard. (Mildly interesting background: Gabe’s used to be Rugged Warehouse. Never went there, either.)
