Midtown Tavern opens in Charlotte’s Historic Cherry neighborhood — with two patios
Historic Cherry just got a new neighbor. Midtown Tavern opened its doors earlier this month after having to delay its planned grand opening in March due to COVID-19. The restaurant and lounge on East Third Street in Charlotte touts upscale bar food with an Italian flare.
Owners Susan Schall and Gennaro Vitale wanted to create a casual neighborhood hangout that featured quality, homemade food. The menu of burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, salads and small bites fits appetites of all sizes.
Vitale’s personal family recipes are used to make all of the sauces and dressings — even the mozzarella is made fresh in-house. A specialty cocktail and martini menu and a selection of local NC beers on draft round out the offerings.
A variety of seating options give Midtown Tavern versatility as both a restaurant and a lounge. With two patio areas — one covered and one open air — there are plenty of places to enjoy a beverage or meal al fresco. Two bars, including one that is indoor/outdoor give guests easy access to beverage service. Inside, the traditional restaurant section is divided from the lounge/club area and both feature large screen TVs.
“Our goal was to create a neighborhood hangout where people could casually gather and enjoy quality food, socialize and listen to music,” co-owner Schall said. “Starting this Saturday at 9 p.m., we will have DJ JGood playing music on the lounge side and plan to feature bands and DJs on Fridays and Saturdays moving forward.”
Midtown Tavern is now open for dinner beginning at 4 p.m. and is operating at 50% capacity in compliance with Phase 2 of COVID-19 reopening. Monday-Thursday it closes at midnight, and Friday and Saturday at 2 a.m. In Phase 3, the restaurant will extend its hours, opening for lunch seven days a week starting at 11 a.m.
