Le Meridien getting new restaurant, rooftop bar — and celebrity chef — in uptown
Celebrity Chef David Burke is heading south for the summer.
The award-winning restaurateur from New York plans to open a rooftop bar, SkyBar by David Burke, and restaurant, RedSalt by David Burke, this summer at the Le Méridien in uptown.
SkyBar will open Aug. 7 to the public in the space that formerly held City Lights. RedSalt will occupy the space in the hotel that was formerly Evoke and will open later this summer.
SkyBar will feature Burke’s light American fare, such as his signature maple pepper bacon, served hanging from a clothespin. Diners snip off pieces of the glazed strips with provided scissors. Other featured dishes include Emotional Lobster Dumplings and Crabcake Rafts. Signature cocktails will be available poolside.
RedSalt will be located off the lobby of the hotel. The menu will feature steak cuts prepared with Burke’s patented sea-salt dry-aging method. Appetizers, entrees and sides will be prepared with locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.
Burke — known for his guest appearances on Bravo’s Top Chef — will handcraft RedSalt’s ambience through his curated artwork displays.
“Over the years, I have had the opportunity to connect with the Charlotte community through friends and family, and I have been impressed by not only the growth, but the city’s diverse and vibrant culture, culinary and mixology scene,” Burke said in a statement. “While it has been an interesting year, food continues to bring people together, and I look forward to welcoming everyone to share a meal with us at RedSalt and SkyBar.”
Under North Carolina’s Phase 2 reopening plan, Le Méridien has implemented COVID-19 surface cleaning protocols, installed hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel and will limit capacity to accommodate social distancing.
