Need a midweek pick-me-up? Samantha Allen, owner and pastry chef at Wentworth & Fenn, will provide the sugar rush you crave to get you through the rest of the week. Beginning Sept. 24 at 10 a.m., she’s launching Thursday Thrills, a weekly flash sale of baked goods.

“This is a mini pandemic pivot of sorts,” Allen said. “All business owners are having to adjust, and we figured why not have a little fun while doing so?”

The sweet details

Thursday Thrills will be announced before 10 a.m. each Thursday morning on Wentworth & Fenn’s social media (Instagram: @wentworth_and_fenn, Facebook: @wentworthandfenn). The price per piece will be below $10.

No pre-orders or phone orders are allowed. Instead, Thursday Thrills are available for walk-up purchases at the Camp North End bakery. Get there early — there’s a limited amount, and it’s expected to sell out fast.

The debut treat is a bleu cheese and sage knot, which you can enjoy for just $6.

Future options will include cake by the slice, fresh bread, bundt cakes, cookie sandwiches and more.

Pivoting amid a pandemic

Wentworth & Fenn was launched out of a vintage Shasta camper, dubbed Selma. The success drove Allen to open a brick-and-mortar bakery at Camp North End this year. You’ll find nostalgia-inducing, scratch-made confections like special event cakes, tarts, macarons and rustic breads.

The COVID-19 pandemic slowed Allen’s once-robust wedding business upon opening her cozy event space and tasting room, so she’s had to innovate. To continue to share pastries with the Charlotte community, Allen launched pre-ordered, weekly themed variety pastry boxes for $30 each (or $100 for four). Thursday Thrills is the latest offering to join the lineup.

“It’s taken a long time to find the right spot where Wentworth & Fenn felt like home,” Allen said. “The energy and experience at Camp North End is very important to us. We want to put our stamp on flavor, experience and quality. For our brand, Camp North End is the place to execute it. There’s a ton of room for growth and building relationships with customers. It just fits.”
