Bring on the macarons: Here’s when the new Amelie’s NoDa location will open
Amelie’s is moving its flagship bakery and cafe from its original home in Charlotte’s Villa Heights to a spot just a little over a mile away in the NoDa neighborhood. The current location is closing Friday, April 22 at 10 p.m., and the new location will open Thursday, April 28 at 7 a.m.
“This is an emotional time for us, filled with excitement and many wonderful memories at 2424 N. Davidson. Although we will miss it, we are happy to stay in the NoDa neighborhood and be less than 1 mile from our flagship. We are grateful to have this opportunity to turn a new page and give our regulars something new to look forward to,” said Frank Reed, Amélie’s CEO and co-founder.
The new bakery will be at 136 E. 36th St.
FLASH BACK: Yes, you’ve heard this story before. Before COVID-19, the French bakery known for its funky decor had announced plans to move to the new NoDa location. But that change was put on pause as the pandemic arrived.
Now, Amelie’s and Aston Properties have decided to move forward with the original plans.
- “Like many businesses in the hospitality industry, we were forced to change our plans and focus on getting through these difficult times. We have always loved this location and are thrilled to be restarting this project.” owner and CEO Frank Reed said in a statement. “We are very fortunate to have Aston Properties as our landlord and very grateful for their flexibility and vision to stick with us.
- “Our existing NoDa location is what started everything for Amélie’s and we’re happy to continue to strengthen our relationship with the community with this move.”
OTHER LOCATIONS:
- In November 2020, Amelie’s closed its uptown location, citing hardships created by the pandemic and so many of uptown’s employees working remotely.
- The bakery has three other locations sprinkled throughout the city: Park Road Shopping Center, Carmel Commons and in Rock Hill.
- It also has a new wholesale kitchen in the former Nova’s Bakery space in Plaza Midwood, where it makes bread for retailers and hospitality companies.
