Attention vintage shoppers: There’s a new spot in Charlotte to check out.

Darion Martin, 23, opened the first Be Your Own Person store in January 2021, as a two-story interactive spot in Monroe filled with retail fun. Shoppers will find vintage tees, thrifted clothes and memorabilia in addition to branded items such as hoodies, T-shirts and even shoes.

“It’s a lot of cool things that have been created over the years,” Martin told CharlotteFive.

The interactive part comes in with an opportunity to let your presence be known. While you’re shopping, there’s a wall you can sign to leave your own mark in the store.

The lower-level showroom features special vintage and one-of-a-kind pieces, along with a photo studio. There’s also space for Martin to print custom clothes from the BYOP collection. He’s been creating his own pieces since he was a senior at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology.

“When people come into my store and don’t necessarily see something on the racks that they like, I can make something custom for them,” Martin said.

Last month, a second location has opened in the Oak Forest neighborhood of Charlotte with a similar selection.

“It’s a smaller expansion store, but also a different vibe and different level of creativity,” Martin said.

Each has its own Instagram, so you can keep up with what’s happening at both spots.
