A new wine shop is open in South End, featuring Western Europe and West Coast wines
Petit Philippe’s second Charlotte wine shop and tasting room opened in South End on Friday, Sept. 16.
The store’s outpost location is on Camden Road in the former Twenty Degrees Chocolate, which closed in July after co-owner Casey Hickey retired from chocolate making.
The wine store sells a curated selection of Western Europe and West Coast wines by the bottle or the case. The tasting room features limited wines by the glass and tasting flights Thursday-Saturday evenings.
Naquan Groomes is the retail manager at this location, which is owned by Hickey and her husband Mark Meissner. “We believe South End is under-served in terms of specialty wine retail given the tremendous growth in the neighborhood,” Meissner said in a statement. “We’re excited to share our love of fine wines from smaller producers.”
Charlotte artist Jen Hill created a mural on the store’s exterior.
Petit Philippe’s South End store hours:
- Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
- Sunday from 1 p.m.-6 p.m.
- Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
ABOUT THE ORIGINAL PETIT: The wine store’s flagship location is moving from Selwyn Avenue to a larger building at the corner of Park and Reece Roads. The building was built in 1962 and formerly housed a dry cleaner: Originally, Coachman Cleaners and more recently, Park Road Quick Cleaners. When it opens next year in its new, expanded space, Petit Philippe’s owners will have a lower-level wine cellar and event space, for exclusive winemaker dinners, wine education and regular wine storage client tastings.
