Local coffee shop joins Charlotte’s first ‘trail and transit’ focused apartment building
Night Swim Coffee is expanding yet again, opening its fifth location in Charlotte at The Joinery on Saturday, April 15.
The coffee venture from Black Rock Hospitality Group — a partnership between the teams behind Not Just Coffee and Undercurrent Coffee — will be located what is being called Charlotte’s first “trail and transit” focused apartment building, built with sustainable living and walkability in mind.
“Having a strong locally-owned retail tenant is so important to the ‘forward looking’ culture we want to build in Optimist Park,” said Harrison Tucker, CEO and co-founder of Space Craft, which is developing The Joinery.
Here’s a look at what to expect from the local coffee roaster’s newest spot.
The food
The coffee shop will be open for breakfast and lunch, with a selection of items created from raw and fresh ingredients. Options for vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian dining will be available.
A few new food highlights to look out for will be:
- Sesame Peanut Tofu Wrap with house-made peanut sauce, marinated tofu, purple cabbage slaw, jalapeno peppers, spicy mayo and a tomato tortilla wrap.
- Ploughboy’s Bowl with slow-roasted Jarvis Yellow Dent Corn from Anson Mills, house-made tomato gravy, chèvre and parsley.
- A variety of bagels and house-made cream cheeses.
The space
At the 56-seat coffee shop, expect light and bright views incorporating concrete, metal and glass into the clean, modern design.
“The cafe itself will be gorgeous, with 1,900 square feet of space, large windows overlooking the light rail and pedestrian walkways, and a partnership with Cluck Design who has designed some of the more interesting food concepts in the city and with whom we share many important core values,” Night Swim Coffee co-founder Todd Huber said.
Balfour Beatty is the contractor on the project.
