Soul Miner’s Garden opens soon at Charlotte’s Camp North End — bring on the loaded nachos
Editor’s note: Soul Miner’s Garden will celebrate its grand opening on Nov. 3.
Plant Joy has announced that its food stall at Camp North End is closing after nearly three years in mid-October. Meanwhile, another vegan restaurant that got its start as a food truck — Soul Miner’s Garden — is moving in.
“We planted here, we grew here, we experienced and gave so much joy here. And we made some dang good food too. Now for some good stuff. While our time at camp is coming to an end, we’re planting a delicious seed in our wake. You heard it here first: Soul Miner’s Garden is expanding to camp!!!,” the Plant Joy team said in a joint Instagram post.
“Same stall, absolutely delicious vegan food & some of our very favorite people. We are truly leaving this gorgeous space in the best & most capable hands as we hand off the torch to our sisters at Soul Miner’s Garden. Stay tuned for details to come,” the post continued. “We can’t thank you enough for the support and love this community has shown us.”
Soul Miner’s Garden got its start as a food truck and opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant and market in Gastonia earlier this year — the first vegan restaurant in that area. The Gastonia location, now well known for its loaded nachos and fries, along with street tacos and sliders, will remain open.
The team at Soul Miner’s Garden replied in the post, “We LOVE Y’ALL sooo much!!! Each and every one of you are all amazing!! We are excited and looking forward to carrying this delicious vegan torch at Camp!!’
Soul Miner’s Garden owner Sasha Quinn, a Charlotte native and resident, told CharlotteFive on Friday that she’s excited to move her business back into the area.
“Chef Julia and the team at Plant Joy are absolutely amazing, and we are honored to keep quality vegan eats prominent at Camp North End in their absence. Many of our fans have asked if we will make our way back to the city, and we are thrilled to announce that we’re coming back!”
Dozens of fans chimed in, expressing sadness about Plant Joy closing but looking forward to Soul Miner’s arrival, as well.
“I’m so sad and happy at the same time. We love Plant Joy and Soul Miner’s Garden 4ever,” Richelle Cuzmenco said.
Steven English said, “Very excited for Soul Miner’s Garden, but my heart is broken for Plant Joy. I can’t even.”
Soul Miner’s Garden food
At Soul Miner’s Garden, expect a traditional menu — but vegan, of course. Among its plant-based offerings:
- Reuben (made with portabella mushrooms);
- Shroomin’ Philly (made with locally sourced oyster mushrooms);
- Loaded Nachos made with tortilla chips from a local Tortilleria;
- Hand-cut fries; and
- Southern style Collard Greens that are inspired by Quinn’s late mother.
