Shuttered Lake Norman farm-to-table restaurant selling 2,500 pounds of meat
Lines formed down the road Monday as a popular Lake Norman farm-to-table restaurant began a weeklong sale of its final 2,500 pounds of meats before closing for good.
“We still got the Beef,” Bohemian Cattle Co. owner Cameron Cane said on Instagram. “Like a Ton. Come get it while it lasts.”
Cane soon reported that prime cuts had sold out. “Sorry lines been down the street,” he said on Instagram.
The sale of other cuts, along with ground beef, chicken and seafood, was set to continue from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, he said.
The Sherrills Ford establishment said it was forced to close Sept. 30 after a flap with Catawba County health officials over its classification. Bohemian said it was a farm. Catawba County said Bohemian failed to meet septic and other requirements to receive a full food service establishment permit.
“We did not get closed for food safety issues,” Cane told the Observer previously on Instagram. “They are not issues with food safety, but a reluctance to provide a temporary food establishment permit. We have had and passed five separate inspections by the Catawba health department.”
Bohemian planned to donate any unsold meat at week’s end to Feed NC in Mooresville, which provides weekday meals to those in need.
This week’s sale includes ground beef and beef trimmings for $5 a pound and brisket for $4 a pound.
Bohemian also offered concerts and other outdoor events on its 64- acre Island Point Road farm and ranch that Cane owns with his wife Sheila.
