North Charlotte nightclub closing this weekend as plans for new development move forward
The Press Box Bar & Grill, a popular nightlife venue in Charlotte’s University City area, is closing this Saturday to make way for more development.
“It’s the end of an exciting era,” Press Box management posted to the bar’s social media pages. “We’re filled with deep regrets to announce that The Press Box will be closing its doors. We’ve shared so many incredible memories over the years, and we’re truly grateful for the support you’ve shown us.”
Located in an end cap of the Terraces at University Place on North Tryon Street, just outside of University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the bar with black and red leather furniture, pool tables and a sophisticated atmosphere considers itself one of Charlotte’s premier entertainment destinations.
On the social post, management noted they won’t be able to renew the bar’s lease because the center’s landlords are preparing for “land development opportunities.”
Customers reacted with sadness after learning the news, with many calling The Press Box their go-to spot, while others noted they will miss the “best wings in Charlotte.”
“Had one of the best nights of my life here!! Hate to see ya’ll go,” one customer wrote on Instagram.
“Omg this was my favorite spot in Charlotte!! My feelings are hurt,” wrote another.
The Press Box‘s grand finale is set for Saturday, Nov. 25.
“Thank you for being a part of our journey,” the social post states.
