A well-known plant-based restaurant in Charlotte is now permanently closed after more than a decade.

Living Kitchen, located in South End, closed for business on Monday, Jan. 15.

“It has been our pleasure to serve you over the last 12 years,” the restaurant’s website says. “We will be forever grateful for your support.”

The local spot, which originally opened in 2011 as Luna’s Living Kitchen, was known for its completely organic, plant-based and locally sourced menu with breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert.

Living Kitchen had expanded with other locations in Charlotte’s SouthPark area, in Raleigh and in Chapel Hill, CharlotteFive previously reported, but all have since closed, including the flagship restaurant in Atherton Mill.

“We are truly saddened to hear the news. Thank you for offering Charlotte an excellent vegan restaurant,” Alyson Renée Brown posted on the restaurant’s Instagram.

Another fan, @kingmarigold, wrote: “Please god tell me you aren’t really closing.”

CharlotteFive has reached out for more details on why the team decided to close, so check back for updates.
