A fan-favorite, Charleston-area taco spot is finally open in Lower South End

After months of anticipation, a fan-favorite taco spot from the Charleston area is open in Lower South End.

Taco Boy, known for its scratch-made Mexican-inspired cuisine, joined the lineup of restaurants at The Station at LoSo development and opened its doors Tuesday, Jan. 30.

“The energy and excitement surrounding Taco Boy’s opening in Charlotte is truly exhilarating for us,” said Dahmon Wood, general manager at Taco Boy LoSo. “Hospitality is at the core of our mission, and we’re counting down the moments until we open our doors to serve this thriving city.”

The restaurant, which originally opened in Folly Beach, has multiple locations— that are all custom designed and decorated — across the Carolinas, CharlotteFive previously reported. But this will be the first one in the Charlotte area, featuring a custom mural from a local artist, a rooftop, DJ booth and more.

“Witnessing the remarkable growth of Taco Boy since its inception in 2006 has been an incredible journey,” said Karalee Nielsen Fallert, founder and co-owner of Taco Boy. “We believe in harnessing the power of tacos not just to satisfy taste buds, but to nurture people, activate fun, inspire action, and ultimately build a strong and connected community. The unparalleled sense of community in Charlotte is inspiring, and we look forward to extending a warm welcome to everyone here.”

Here’s some of the dishes you can expect to see on the menu:

  • Al Pastor tacos

  • Ceviche

  • Crab and shrimp enchiladas

  • Made-to-order guacamole en molcajete

  • Vegan-friendly jackfruit carnitas tacos

  • Jicama salad

  • Quesataco

  • Steak tampiquena.

Taco Boy LoSo will also offer a variety of drinks too, including fresh-juiced hibiscus margaritas, spicy margaritas, Mezcalindo, and non-alcoholic hibiscus and Tamarind Agua Fresca.

During its opening phase, the restaurant will only be open for dinner from 5-11 p.m., and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Beginning Feb. 7, with Taco Boy’s LoSo-pening Fiesta, you can stop by for lunch and dinner Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to midnight.

“We’re thrilled to be opening our doors in Charlotte. Many of our team leaders are from the Queen City, and we are excited to continue to grow deep roots in the region by using the power of tacos to build community,” Nielsen Fallert previously said.
