Like Mr. Charles Chicken & Fish? The owners’ newest restaurant is opening soon in Charlotte
Editor’s note: The timeline for opening the restaurant has changed, and we’ve since updated.
The newest location of Mr. Charles Chicken & Fish, a favorite restaurant for Charlotteans since 2006, is opening as early as Saturday.
The spot inside the Value Mart on McAlway Road will be the fourth location for the restaurant that Michael Rhynes Sr. opened with his best friend, Corwin Alexander, and Corwin’s father, Charles Alexander.
When it opens, you’ll be able to head up to a walk-up counter inside the Value Mart, where you can get a taste of your favorite fried chicken and seafood meals — similar to the restaurant’s original Statesview Avenue location. (That location is temporarily closed, by the way. Co-owner Orlando Farrar told CharlotteFive that it should be open again within the next few weeks.)
The takeout location will offer a slimmed-down menu of fried chicken, fried whiting, hamburgers and hot dogs. On the side, you can choose from fries, coleslaw, potato salad and more. On Fridays, croaker will be offered.
“Come grab and go. It’s going to be the same tastes as all the other three locations. We’ll be ready to go,” Farrar said.
Chef and general manager Will Lewis said the team at Mr. Charles had their eyes on the location for a while. “We’ve been looking at this for about a year and a half,” he told CharlotteFive.
“Stop by, and you won’t be disappointed,” he added.
Hours will be 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
