Dessert shop in Birkdale Village closes its doors — for now — after a year in business
A local dessert shop known for its sugary mini donuts is now closed.
Over the weekend, the team behind Sugar + Ice said goodbye to its corner spot on the Birkdale Village Plaza — about a year after opening.
Owners Ryan and Natalia Schooley of Huntersville originally brought a taste of their iconic State Fair Mini Donuts to the Lake Norman area with pop-ups back in 2021 before setting up shop in their own space at Birkdale Village last spring.
Though the duo has closed the doors of its space in the retail shopping center, they “do not believe this will be the end for Sugar + Ice.”
“While we may be saying goodbye to our current location, it is possible you will see us again in the future, just in a different way! We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead,” the team announced in a statement on Instagram.
“We want to express our deepest gratitude to all of our customers. The past year has been an incredible journey filled with fun moments, delicious drinks, and donuts that we were proud to share with you. Your support and patronage have meant the world to us, and we cherish the memories we’ve made together.”
CharlotteFive has reached out to the team to gather more details on its closure and what’s next for Sugar + Ice. We’re also working to see if another business will soon open in the former space at Birkdale Village.
Keep an eye out on this space as we gather more information.
