If you’ve tried State Fair Mini Donuts at one of its Birkdale Village pop-ups and are craving more, you’re in luck. A brick-and-mortar location in the Huntersville shopping center — Sugar + Ice — is now open.

Ryan and Natalia Schooley of Huntersville, a couple who co-owns wholesale supplier State Fair Mini Donuts, started the Lake Norman area pop-ups in 2021. Now, they’ve moved into a small retail shop near Morelia Gourmet Paletas.

Sugar + Ice serves mini donuts, plus grab-and-go offerings such as bagels and scones. You can order shaved ice and frozen drinks, along with coffee drinks such as espressos, lattes and frappes.

“We’ve had an incredible amount of interest in the tiny retail shops, and it has been such a joy getting to know so many of our wonderful neighbors throughout the vetting process,” said Emily Narchus, North American Properties’ director of ancillary revenue.

The Birkdale Village shopping center is experiencing a spurt of change. Brixx Pizza has opened a new location there, and other restaurants and shops are on the way. The Girl Tribe team is also closing its Girl Supply shop to open a new shopping experience there, called Girl Tribe Kiosk.
