After a little more than two weeks in business, Lake Norman restaurant Hot Mess closed once again, citing the need to address operational challenges. The move was intended to be temporary, but Hot Mess never reopened.

Hot Mess opened April 20 after rebranding from Davidson Ice House, which closed at the end of 2022.

“After a couple of weeks of operation, we realized that our standards and, quite frankly, our guests’ standards were not being met,” said Robert Maynard, CEO of Won Life Holdings and CEO and founder of Famous Toastery, who opened Hot Mess with chef and restaurateur Jennifer Brulé.

“Rather than stay open and continue to provide a less-than-stellar experience, we decided to take full ownership and responsibility for our shortcomings. We’re working hard to address these challenges and will come back stronger and better than ever,” Maynard said.

“We appreciate the understanding and support of our amazing Hot Mess family,” Maynard added.

Hot Mess served burgers and bowls, along with dishes such as lobster rolls and lobster mac and cheese. The restaurant owners expected to reopen within 45 days, but that didn’t happen.
