Blacow has said goodbye to burgers at University City and reopened as a new concept
Goodbye, Caballero and Nutty Goat. Blacow Burger & Sushi Bar is ditching its award-winning gourmet short rib burgers and sticking with sushi at its University City location.
The restaurant closed Wednesday, May 3 and reopened as Magic Sushi on Monday, May 8. Its South End location will remain intact.
Magic Sushi will offer unlimited sushi and hibachi for $15.99 at lunch and $24.99 at dinner. Appetizers and other a la carte menu items such as Unagi Don will also be available, including many of the Chef Special rolls from the Blacow sushi menu.
“We appreciate your continued support over the years. Introducing Magic Sushi, a fresh new face for all sushi lovers out there! Come and savor unlimited sushi and hibachi, from classic California rolls to fresh Unagi Don. Our menu is sure to delight your taste buds with every bite!” the restaurant posted on Instagram.
Like many restaurants, Blacow Burger had struggled with challenges including food costs and staffing since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, although it opened its University City location in August 2020, followed by a South End spot. It closed its original Fort Mill location last fall, which has since been replaced by Voodo Wing Co.
Editor’s note: A message sent via Instagram clarified the change involves the University City location only.
