225+ Charlotte-area restaurants that have opened — or plan to — in 2023-24
As the Charlotte area grows and changes, so does its restaurants. Something new is always on the way — especially when it comes to food-and-drink options.
In 2023, there was no exception. We have been enjoying new bites and looking forward to more openings on the way. Recent openings include Culinary Dropout, Monarch Market food hall and Nusa.
Changes for Camp North End included new ice cream shop Seemingly Overzealous and the newly opened Room Service, an original concept from the team behind Black Moth Bars, along with upcoming pickleball complex Tipsy Pickle.
New upscale restaurants such as 3rd & Fernwood, Albertine and Leluia Hall are set to join the scene elsewhere around town, as well.
We have a lot to look forward to, Charlotte. These are among the restaurants and other food-and-beverage spots that have opened or have announced openings in 2023:
1st Ward Social Bar and Lounge
Location: Homewood Suites by Hilton, 508 N. College St., Charlotte, NC 28202
1st Ward Social Bar and Lounge opened over the summer near Spectrum Center with Southern-themed cocktails and light bites such as a watermelon Caesar salad, barbecue chicken flatbread and a jumbo pretzel served with spicy mustard and beer cheese.
3rd & Fernwood
Location: 1100 Metropolitan Ave., Suite 170
Chef Gregory Collier and Subrina Collier’s BayHaven Restaurant group will open a new restaurant with a speakeasy called 3rd & Fernwood at Metropolitan Charlotte. Fellow James Beard nominee chef Cleophus Hethington will be executive chef of the restaurant, located in the former Hickory Tavern spot.
401 Social
Location: Embassy Suites by Hilton Charlotte Uptown, 401 E M.L.K. Jr Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28202
Cocktail lounge 401 Social opened in May on the ground floor of the Embassy Suites by Hilton Charlotte Uptown, serving craft cocktails, handhelds, shareables and salads. The 5,500-square-foot bar and lounge — featuring a patio overlooking the NASCAR Hall of Fame — is near the Blue Line light rail and across the street from the Charlotte Convention Center.
760 Craft Works
Location: 100 Gilead Road, Huntersville, NC 28078
A new brewery, 760 Craft Works, opened in May in downtown Huntersville, bringing new life to the town’s former police administration building. Father and son owners Trey Ramsey and Wagner Ramsey said the brewery is a family affair and they have close ties to the Lake Norman area, having lived there previously before moving back once again.
Acqua Ragazza
Location: 201 N Church St., Mooresville, NC 28115
Acqua Ragazza opened as the first restaurant at the Mill One mixed-use development in downtown Mooresville. The Italian restaurant serves seafood, steak and veal.
Albertine
Location: Duke Energy Plaza, 525 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202
Albertine, a new fine dining restaurant from chef Joe and Katy Kindred, will bring will contemporary Mediterranean and Southern inspired cuisine to uptown Charlotte’s Duke Energy Plaza. It’s slated to open in 2024.
The Alley
Location: 320 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202
Latta Arcade is now an elevated street eats destination called The Alley at Latta Arcade. Tenants include a new concept from The Dumpling Lady, a second Latta storefront from Felix Empanadas called Carnales and bakery Wentworth & Fenn, along with BFF — aka Burgers, Fries and Franks — which opened this fall.
Amelie’s Uptown
Location: 325 South College Street, Charlotte, NC 28282
Amélie’s French Bakery and Café re-opened its uptown Charlotte location. The redesigned space aims to increase service speed with a new ordering system, along with a ‘Pick-Up Only’ section for lunch customers who are in a rush.
Another Brewery
Location: Bainbridge NoDa at 2509 N. Davidson St.
Another Brewery was expected to open before Thanksgiving but is now shooting for January in a 4,000-square-foot space with a 500-square-foot patio. Its earliest brews in the works include a peach sour, a tropical double IPA and a stout.
AROMA Indian Grill & Bar
Location: Red Stone, 9648 Red Stone Dr., Indian Land, South Carolina 29707
AROMA Indian Grill & Bar opened late in the year in the former Red Rocks: Red Stone location. It offers a wide variety of Indian cuisine, including biryani, tandoor chicken and shrimp, curries, chat and more. You’ll find a few Indo-Chinese options, as well.
Artisan Food Truck Food Court
Location: 801 Westinghouse Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28273
Artisan Food Truck Food Court opened Oct. 16, outside of the new Artisan Quartz shop. Shop owner Lee Bonacum has contracted at least 11 food trucks to serve guests on site daily, offering a variety of foods including pizza, tacos, rice bowls and sweet treats.
Ass Clown Brewing Co.
Location: Alongside Brewing, 412 W Palmer St., Charlotte, NC 28203
Cornelius-based Ass Clown Brewing opened a Charlotte location Dec. 20 at Alongside Brewing in South End. You’ll find its familiar beers, along with food truck bites and live music.
Azucar
Location: Ballantyne Village, 14825 Ballantyne Village Way, Suite A-150, Charlotte, NC 28277
Azucar, a Cuban restaurant in Huntersville, is opening a second location in Ballantyne. Look for a modern approach to Cuban cuisine that incorporates twists such as cauliflower mash and yucca gnocchi.
Azul Tacos & Beer
Location: 2122 Thrift Rd, Charlotte, NC 28208
Azul Tacos & Beer, a Southern California-style Mexican restaurant, joined the growing lineup of food options along Thrift Road in Charlotte’s Wesley Heights neighborhood. The counter service restaurant brings fresh, handmade street food to Charlotte — including blue corn tortillas.
B.A.D.
Location: 1730 Abbey Place, Suite 4, Charlotte NC 28209
Popular pop-up Beyond Amazing Donuts — aka B.A.D. — found a new location in Montford Park and opened its counter-service doughnut shop there. “My goal for my establishment is to invoke the feelings of community, the human experience, and connection. Overall I want to take my customers on a journey with me, from the farm, to the table, and beyond,” owner Jasmine Macon said on Instagram.
B&K Tea Cafe
Location: 115 Commons Drive, Ste F, Mooresville, NC. 28117
B&K Cafe, a boba tea and mochi ice cream shop that has locations in Concord and Kannapolis, has expanded to Lake Norman. It opened over the summer and offers merchandise, as well.
Bar One Lounge and 800° Woodfired Kitchen
Location: 2161 Hawkins St., Charlotte, NC 28203S
Bar One and 800° Woodfired Kitchen opened an expansion of its Phillip Place space in February, with plans to expand to two new locations — in Lake Norman and South End. The planned Mooresville location was later abandoned, but customers can expect the same look and feel of the flagship space in the new South End spot, along with familiar menu items, when it opens in winter 2024.
Bartaco
Location: 16916 Birkdale Commons Pkwy., Huntersville, NC 28078
Bartaco is opening its third location in North Carolina at Birkdale Village, offering fresh tacos, rice bowls and specialty drinks. The restaurant will be located next to the Grove at the shopping center.
Benny DaCorsa’s
Location: 30 Church St S, Concord, NC 28025
Benny DaCorsa’s, a new location of Virginia-based Benny’s — the pizzeria where every location has a different name — opened in March in Concord. “Benny DaCorsa’s is officially open for business, we can’t wait to meet and serve you some tasty oversized slices,” the restaurant posted on Instagram.
Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks
Location: 8548 University City Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28213
Philadelphia native Derrick Hayes is bringing his Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks franchise to Charlotte. The sandwiches feature beef, chicken and salmon cheesesteaks topped with things like onions, banana peppers, mushrooms and sweet peppers, stuffed in Amoroso’s rolls.
Bill and Bob’s Coffee Bar
Location: 2701 Old Monroe Rd, Stallings, NC 28104
Albert Jeanniton — aka AlFliction of “Ink Masters” fame — opened Bill and Bob’s Coffee Bar next to his tattoo shop in Stallings in spring 2023. Stop in for a Bacon Waffle Latte and join the conversations taking place at the community gathering spot.
Biscuit Belly
Location: 1949 E 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204
Location: 2147 W. Highway 160 Suite 101 Fort Mill, SC 29708
Biscuit Belly, a Kentucky-based breakfast and brunch chain, is set to open six locations of the fast-casual restaurant. Locations in Elizabeth neighborhood and Fort Mill, S.C., are expected in in spring 2024, with restaurants in Ballantyne, Concord, Huntersville, Park Road and Plaza Midwood following next.
Bonnie & Clyde’s Lounge

Bonnie & Clyde’s opened Oct. 13, mixing entertainment with a casual dining experience. The menu includes “a culinary journey around the world,” and the 1,500-square-foot rooftop space includes fireplaces and TVs.
Borderline Bar & Billiards
Location: The Pass, 530 E. Sugar Creek Rd. and 4100 and 4212 Raleigh St., Charlotte NC 28213
Borderline Bar & Billiards plans to open next year as “comfortable neighborhood bar” with social games and drinks. Owner Greg Guillorn is also behind The Degenerate.
Bossy Beulah’s Chicken Shack

Bossy Beulah’s Chicken Shack’s third location opened in February in Charlotte’s South End neighborhood. A fourth followed right behind in Fort Mill.
Bowl at Ballantyne
Location: Bowl Street, Charlotte, NC 28277
North Italia and Flower Child, both by Sam Fox of Phoenix-based Fox Restaurant Concepts, will open at The Bowl at Ballantyne in 2024. They’ll join previously announced tenants including Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen, Honeysuckle Gelato, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery and Bossy Beulah’s.
Brixx Pizza
Location: 16926 Birkdale Commons Pkwy, Huntersville, NC 28078
Charlotte staple Brixx Pizza traded locations at busy Birkdale Village in Lake Norman, re-opening in a bigger spot near Regal Birkdale.
Brown Bag Seafood Co.
Location: Ally Center, 601 S. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28202
Brown Bag Seafood, a Chicago-based seafood chain, opened three Charlotte-area stores in less than six months. The first North Carolina store debuted in August 2022 at Birkdale Village in Huntersville, followed by a second location that opened in December in South End at 100 W. Worthington Ave., on the ground floor of Lowe’s Tech Hub.
Bulldog Taproom/Social
Location: 222 West Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203
Bulldog Taproom/Social is moving to a new South End spot at the Shops at The Winston on West Boulevard. On-site brewing will now be available, leading Bulldog Taproom/Social owner Rob Johnson to say, “I am thrilled that we now get to add this feature to all the other awesome things that people love about our place.”
Calle Sol SouthPark
Location: 1300 Apex Drive Ste 140, Charlotte NC 28210
A second location of Calle Sol Latin Cafe & Cevicheria opened in Charlotte’s SouthPark area at the end of May, bringing joy to those in South Charlotte waiting for more chaufa and salichipapa.
Capital Tacos
Location: 1823 E Arbors Dr, Charlotte, NC 28262
Location: Cotswold Village Shopping Center, 282 S Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC 28211
Capital Tacos, a Florida-based Tex-Mex chain, has planned two restaurants in Charlotte. The first — in Mallard Creek — opened July 13, while the Cotswold Village Shopping Center spot opened later in the fall.
Capriotti’s
Location: 2040 Freeman Park Drive, Charlotte, NC 28273
Capriotti’s, the sandwich shop famous for its Thanksgiving-in-a-bite sub The Bobbie, opened in Steele Creek in January. Owners David Froman and Todd Guear also opened the Fort Mill location in 2021.
Catalina Kitchen + Bar
Location: Elizabeth on Seventh, 1942 E 7th St #106, Charlotte, NC 28204
Catalina Kitchen + Bar opened Sept. 12, in a 5,500-square-foot space plus a patio near Rosemont Market and Wine Bar. It’s part of Ditka’s Restaurant Group, owned by NFL Hall of Famer and television commentator Mike Ditka, and serves local and Southern menu items such as Carolina Sunburst Farms Trout with Butter Bean Succotash, Pappardelle with short rib ragu and roasted tomatoes.
Chapter 6
Location: The Line in South End, 2151 Hawkins St, Suite 120., Charlotte, NC 28203
Chapter 6, opened in September at The Line in South End, plans to offer small plates with a global perspective. The concept — the 6th restaurant in Jon and Kim Dressler’s Rare Roots Hospitality group — focuses on Mediterranean flavors, Jon Dressler said.
Chefry’s Blue Smoke BBQ
Location: 134 Mooresville Commons Way, Mooresville, NC 28117
The menu at James Hettinger’s new Chefry’s Blue Smoke BBQ restaurant in Mooresville combines the executive chef-owner’s lifelong love of garden-grown food and his decades running the kitchens of top hotels and restaurants in Florida, Colorado and North Carolina. Look for scratch-made barbecue with a variety of sauce options.
Chief’s
Location: 3024 N. Davidson St., Charlotte, NC 28205
Mixologist Bob Peters and the team behind The Goodyear House is opening a cocktail bar next door to the restaurant called Chief’s in early 2024. The early 1900s mill house will be converted into a 50-seat, 1,800-square-foot space that will include bar and lounge seating, plus a small outdoor garden.
The Club House Kitchen & Cocktails
Location: 2308 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205
The Club House Kitchen & Cocktails is taking over the former Lulu’s Maryland Style Chicken & Seafood space in Plaza Midwood. It serves the patrons of Pinhouse next door, along with its own guests, serving elevated bar food including burgers, chicken lollipops and more.
Clutch Coffee Bar
Location: 2027 Celanese Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732
Clutch Coffee Bar opened in Rock Hill in May, bringing a second location of the drive-thru coffee shop to South Carolina. The North Carolina-based company was founded in 2018, The Herald reported.
Community Table Bistro
Location: 5301 Wilkinson Blvd., Charlotte, NC, 28208
Community Table Bistro has found new life again, after closing in 2020 at the onset of the pandemic. The restaurant officially reopened for breakfast and lunch inside of the Goodwill Opportunity Campus in April under the new ownership of FDY, Inc., a Black-owned food services company.
Condado Tacos
Location: Promenade at Providence, 10706 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28277
Condado Taco’s second Charlotte location opened June 29. The national chain offers a variety of creatively flavored tacos, chips and dips and drink.
Constance
Location: 2200 Thrift Road, Charlotte, NC 28208
Restaurant Constance, named after chef Sam Diminich’s daughter, opened Jan. 27 in the former Counter- location — adjacent to Diminich’s Your Farms Your Table space at The City Kitch. Expect seasonal dishes that support local farmers and have a personal touch from Diminich’s background.
Co-Op Frosé and Eatery
Location: 340 W Tremont Ave., Unit 110, Charlotte, NC 28205
Charleston-based Co-Op Frosé and Eatery, which serves frosé and gourmet sandwiches, announced plans to come to town in July 2022. The South End location opened May 26.
Coquette
Location: 400 S Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28285
Coquette, a French concept from the Mother Earth Group, opened this summer in uptown Charlotte. Expect coffee and pastries in the morning, and approachable French cuisine later on in the day, including duck fat fried chicken.
The Conspiracy
Location: 412 W 5th St Suite C 120, Charlotte, NC 28205
The Conspiracy opened in late July as “uptown Charlotte’s best kept secret.” The cocktails are a nod to a conspiracy theories, and the menu includes offerings such as goat cheese & pesto dip, cauliflower lettuce wraps and Cuban sliders.
Copenhagen Wine & Beer Garden
Location: Merino Mill, 500 S. Main St., Mooresville, NC 28115
Copenhagen Wine & Beer Garden is anticipated to open at Merino Mill sometime in summer 2024. It will have international wines and craft beer, along with small plates.
The Counter
Location: 1098 Brawley School Rd, Suite G, Mooresville, NC 28117
A new deli called The Counter opened in Lake Norman this summer, offering Mooresville residents a place to stop in for a hearty breakfast sandwich or load up on a few deli salads and dinner to take home. The fully renovated former Subway location has seating for just under 30 people.
The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar
Location: 5965 Thunder Rd, Concord, NC 28027
The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar is opening a new location in Concord near Concord Mills Mall. The Myrtle Beach-based chain opened in June 2020 and puts out over-the-top milkshakes loaded with toppings and extra sweet treats.
The Crazy Pig
Location: 128 West Main St., Elkin, NC 28621
The Crazy Pig, a Lake Norman barbecue restaurant in Davidson, has expanded to Elkin. It offers the same menu of pork sandwiches, brisket and house-made sides at the new location, which opened in early May. Two other locations are in the works, as well.
The Crust Pizza
Location: 10710 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC 28277
A second location of The Crust Pizza is slated to open at Promenade on Providence around January. The pizzeria offers hand-made, flaky crusts with edge-to-edge toppings, along with salads and oven-baked subs.
Culinary Dropout
Location: 1120 S Tryon St #100, Charlotte, NC 28203
Culinary Dropout opened its new Charlotte location at Vantage South End on Oct. 11. With James Beard-nominated chef Sam Fox at the helm of the Fox Restaurant Concepts spot, it serves “classic comfort food done right.”
Curry Gate 2
Location: 5516 South Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28217
Indian and Nepalese restaurant Curry Gate is a favorite in Charlotte, and CharlotteFive’s Emiene Wright once famously told readers to order a spice level 8. (Her recommendation should come with a warning label!) The restaurant expanded, opening Curry Gate 2 on South Boulevard next to Romeo’s Burgers in February and a food stall at Monarch Market.
Curry Junction
Location: The Arboretum Shopping Center, 8200 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC 28277
Curry Junction, a sister restaurant to Curry Gate, will open in the former Akropolis Cafe spot at The Arboretum in early 2024.
Cuzzo’s Cuisine
Location: Charlotte Premium Outlets, 5428 New Fashion Way, Charlotte NC 28278
Charlotte favorite Cuzzo’s Cuisine opened its third location in late December at Charlotte Premium Outlets’ food court. Of course, the lobster mac and cheese is on the menu, along with wings and other specialties.
Dank Burrito
Location: 343 Technology Center Way, Rock Hill, SC 29730
Dank Burrito will sell burritos, tacos, bowls and salads when it opens early next year. The 3,300-square-foot Rock Hill location will also offer craft beers, wine, canned beer and seltzers.
Dilworth Tasting Room
Location: 1413 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205
Wine bar and cocktail lounge Dilworth Tasting Room is opening a third Charlotte location in Plaza Midwood next year. Expect a space that fits with the neighborhood, along with a garden patio to complement the global cuisine.
The Dive Bar
Location: 20910 Torrence Chapel Rd, D7, Cornelius, NC 28031
The Dive Bar, which has locations in Mooresville and Hickory, took over The Hideaway LKN space in October and rebranded with a focus on arcade gaming. Another new location in High Point is planned, too.
Destination Sweets
Location: Northlake Mall, 6801 Northlake Mall Drive, Charlotte, NC 28216
The Food Network famous baker behind now-closed BW Sweets has launched a new desserts business called Destination Sweets that opened its flagship location Nov. 3 at Northlake Mall. The bakery will focus on single-serving portions for customers on the go, with BW Sweets’ fan favorite cinnamon rolls, along with mini cakes, cheesecakes, brownies and pies.
Dollar Cone
Location: 4021 Weddington Rd (Hwy 84) Monroe, NC 28110
Dollar Cone, an ice cream shop in Monroe that closed in March, reopened in July with new owners. Longtime customers Pam and Jeff LeBlanc added new food items to the original menu and renovated, but once again shut down. It is now relocating to Mineral Springs, where it will share space with Caffiend Coffee Shop at 5910 Waxhaw Hwy., when it reopens in 2024.
Donut I Love You
Location: 908 E 35th St., Charlotte, NC 28205
Donut I Love You is moving into the small, NoDa neighborhood space that used to be NoDa Yoga. After renovations on the brick-and-mortar space, it will sell the same gluten-free doughnuts with fruit, whipped cream and other toppings that gained its food truck following.
Dos Caminos
Location: 601 S. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC
New York-based Mexican restaurant Dos Caminos is expected to open its first North Carolina location on the ground floor of Ally Charlotte Center. Expect nachos and ceviche; tacos on handmade tortillas and more.
Dram & Draught
Location: 1220 S Tryon St., Suite 300, Charlotte, NC 28203
Raleigh-based Dram & Draught’s newest location opened in Charlotte on June 26. Look for whiskey selections from around the world, cocktails and mocktails, along with draft beer and an international wine list.
The Dumpling Lady
Location: 327 W. Tremont Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203
The Dumpling Lady opened a new location in South End in the space formerly occupied by Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit. The restaurant started out in 2017 as a food truck and opened at Optimist Hall in 2019.
Eden
Location: 1212 Pecan Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205
Cocktail lounge Eden opened in the former Peculiar Rabbit space in August. It features entertainment by live musicians and DJs, along with specialty drinks, shared cocktails and small bites like charcuterie boards.
Ed’s Tavern
Location: 17044 Kenton Dr. Cornelius, NC 28031
A venerable pub in Charlotte’s Dilworth neighborhood expanded to Lake Norman this fall with a Nov. 1 opening. Ed’s Tavern, established in 1935, took over Piper’s Tavern in Cornelius, which housed an Irish pub that closed Jan. 1 after 20 years. The Cornelius tavern operated for most of those years as Galway Hooker.
EJ’s Soul Food and Vegan
Location: 501 Cox Road, Gastonia NC
Black-owned and female-run EJ’s Soul Food and Vegan restaurant in Gastonia opened in mid-June. Look for soul food favorites like beef tips and gravy alongside barbecue jackfruit.
Elizabeth Parlour Room
Location: 1523 Elizabeth Ave Suite 120, Charlotte, NC 28204
Craft cocktails are the focus at Elizabeth Parlour Room, which was formerly Hooligans on Elizabeth, Axios Charlotte reported. The bar — still tied to Hooligans but with less of a focus on soccer — opened Jan. 20.
Elk Ave Tavern
Location: 125 Elk Ave., Rock Hill SC, 29730
The team behind food truck Cibi! Cibi! will launch its first brick-and-mortar location, Elk Ave Tavern in Rock Hill. Owners Anthony Legatie and Hunter Newton promise a “casual neighborhood spot for locals,” when it opens in early 2024.
El Malo Tacos
Location: 1308 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28205
El Malo Tacos, a “little brother” concept to Mal Pan, is set to open in 2024. The restaurant is planning tortillas made with heirloom corn and Sonoran-style flour tortillas to make tacos al pastor, birria, Cali burritos, quesadillas, nachos and California style fries when it opens in Plaza Midwood.

El Toro Bruto closed up shop at Resident Culture on Dec. 17 and plans to reopen in a new location. Watch for details on where to find some of the best breakfast tacos in Charlotte.
Empire Pizza
Location: 8500 Pineville-Matthews Rd, Charlotte, NC 28226 (opening spring 2024)
Empire Pizza, a South Carolina-based chain with restaurants in York County and Mint Hill, is expanding into South Charlotte in spring 2024. The pizzeria will be located in the space that most recently held the short-lived Loretta’s Restaurant, and previously housed Bailey’s Sports Bar and Fox & Hound.
Firehawk Brewpub
Location: 309 North Main Street, Mount Holly
Firehawk Brewpub, a classic Southern barbecue and beer restaurant, opened in May in a historic Mount Holly firehouse. The 6,000-square-foot restaurant will combine owner Scott Blackwood’s in-house brewed beer and his personal recipe for traditional North Carolina wood-fired barbecue.
The Flying Biscuit Cafe
Location: 110 Matthews Station St #1a, Matthews, NC 28105
The Flying Biscuit Cafe opened in March in Matthews in the former Pizza Peel & Tap Room location there. The menu offers breakfast favorites such as waffles, pancakes, omelets and more, including vegetarian and vegan options. Lunch options are available as well at the Atlanta-based chain, including burgers, salad and sandwiches.
The Fox & Falcon

Davidson Ice House closed on New Year’s Eve to transform into a new concept — Hot Mess — serving burgers, bowls and lobster rolls. Chef and owner Jennifer Brulé and Robert Maynard, CEO of Won Life Holdings and co-founder and CEO of Famous Toastery, teamed up on the venture that opened April 20. The restaurant closed a few weeks afterward, intending for the move to be temporary, but it didn’t reopen.

The Pit Stop, a new Lake Norman spot where you can start your day with a morning cup of coffee or wrap up your evening with a burger while you play pool, is coming soon to Mooresville. Owners Aaron Porter and BJ Stockton are targeting a spring opening in the former Amo Cafe location on Williamson Road in the Shoppes at the French Quarter.
Pita Wheel

Pita Wheel opened its third restaurant in Belmont in the former Glenway Premium Pub that closed in June. The restaurant started as a food truck and has plans to open more Charlotte area locations. “We’re known for our pita first, beer second,” Pita Wheel Belmont general manager Ashley Alleman told The Charlotte Observer’s Catherine Muccigrosso.
Pizza Baby

Pizza Baby opened in late summer in Wesley Heights, offering 18-inch, “Americana”-style pies crafted with local ingredients. You can also pair your pizza with sandwiches, salads and ice cream.
Portofino’s

The popular Italian restaurant Portofino’s fifth location in Charlotte will open on the ground level of the recently renovated One Independence Center in spring 2024. The restaurant will serve its pizza, pastas and sandwiches in the 2,500-square-foot restaurant, with both dine in and grab-and-go service. It will sit nearby Monarch Market, an 18,000-square-foot food hall within One Independence Center.
Puerta

Puerta opened in the former The Stanley space in the Elizabeth neighborhood in July. The restaurant serves traditional Mexican cuisine and spirits with full-service dinner and late-night menus.
The Punch Room

The Punch Room, a “modern-day drinking den inspired by the 19th century speakeasies” that closed during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, is now back open at The Ritz-Carlton. Mixologist Kel Minton has taken over operations at the bar, offering specialty drinks, a seasonal menu of small bites and desserts.
Queen City Quarter

Queen City Quarter, formerly known as Epicentre, is getting an infusion of new restaurants under the property’s new ownership. New food-and-drink spots will include: Cajun Market, a fast-casual Cajun-Creole restaurant; Nostalgia Hollow Co., a coffee and home goods shop; and Super Icy Brothers, a frozen dessert shop.
Que Fresa Taqueria + Bar

Que Onda

The fifth location of Que Onda opened April 20 with a new look and feel in the former Coaltrane’s building in Plaza Midwood. The newest restaurant features a revamped cocktail menu and elevated entrees with global touches, including Salmon Veracruz, Shrimp Monterrey and Short Ribs.
Rally

A Rally pickleball complex that includes a full-service restaurant with a global street food-inspired menu and two bars has moved into Lower South End. The entertainment venue opened in late June.
Ramen Bar Kazoku

Ramen Bar Kazoku opened in April at StoneCrest at Piper Glen. It serves traditional-style Japanese ramen and steamed buns, along with sake, cocktails and draft beer.
The Reggae Lounge

The Reggae Lounge planned to open in December but now expects to open in early 2024. “It will have a real Caribbean theme,” Elvado Laing, a native of the Bahamas, told the Charlotte Observer. “When you walk in, you’re going to feel like you’re not even in Charlotte. One thing they are going to get is authenticity.”
Resident Culture Brewing

Resident Culture Brewing Company opened a new taproom at The Market at 7th Street. For now, it’s in the former Tank’s Tap space with 12 beers on tap and retail coolers with cans to-go. Late next year, the brewery plans to move to a larger space in The Market that includes a patio.
Rio 150

Rio 150 — known for having the biggest margarita in Lake Norman — is opening a new location in downtown Mooresville’s Mill One development. The 8-year-old family owned restaurant on River Highway (formerly known as La Unica Mooresville) has recently rebranded with the Rio 150 name.
Rise Cafe

Rise Cafe owners Christina and Titus Bartolotta, who both worked as chefs before delving into other industries, are now at the helm at the Lake Norman restaurant that was once an Egg Cafe location, serving breakfast, brunch and lunch. Customers can look forward to a few new things on the menu — including bacon jam, espresso and bottled beverages like Celsius Energy Drinks. But for the most part, things will stay the same.
The Roaring Social

The Roaring Social, an alcohol-free dessert pop-up, plans to open a brick-and-mortar space to promote sober nightlife, health and wellness. It plans to be open from early morning to late night with coffee, mocktails, baked goods and more.

The co-owner of Black Moth Bars at Camp North End opened a new concept called Room Service, featuring specialty cocktail drinks, beer and wine, along with daytime sandwiches and a rotating menu of shared plates in the evening.

Rosemont Market and Wine Bar is now open at the new Elizabeth on Seventh development, offering market items along with breakfast, lunch, coffee, wine and beer. A full-service dinner menu is on tap, as well.
RSVP South End

RSVP South End holds four nightlife concepts under one roof: a bar, cocktail lounge, rooftop bar and nightclub. Each spot has a different atmosphere — and different beverage menus. It opened Friday, Jan. 20.
Ruby Sunshine

Brunch spot Ruby Sunshine had planned to open a Matthews location, but switched up to a Ballantyne location instead. The New Orleans-style restaurant moved into the former Cantina 1511 building on Johnston Road.
Runaway Whiskey & Wine

Runaway Whiskey & Wine opened Dec. 20 in the booming Thrift Road corridor. The 1920s-inspired bar offers a craft cocktail menu, along with small plates such as corn crab fritters and mains including a Wagyu burger & frites.
The Salty Donut

The Miami-based doughnut shop opened in early January on the bottom floor of the Dimensional Funds tower in South End, serving craft doughnuts and coffee. Both the design and doughnut flavors at The Salty Donut have a local influence, CEO and co-founder Andy Rodriguez said.
Sandwich Max

Sandwich Max had a year of ups and downs. After relocating to ghost kitchen South End Eats because of redevelopment plans, it found a new home toward the end of 2023. The sandwich shop will be reopening in the former Paper Plane Deli location in Charlotte’s Belmont neighborhood soon.
Saucy Brew Works

Cleveland-based Saucy Brew Works announced plans to open a taproom near the convergence of Dilworth and South End back in 2021, but they’re still working on it. Beer drinkers can expect a wide range of IPAs, stouts, fruited sours and seasonal brews to comprise the tap list that regularly exceeds 20 varieties.
Savannah Oyster Co.

The Savannah Oyster Co. was expected to open in spring 2023 in Lake Norman at Mill One in Mooresville, but its timeline was pushed back and it opened Sept. 20. The restaurant serves fresh, farm-raised and wild-caught seafood sourced solely from responsible fishermen along the East Coast.
Schreiber’s on Rye

Schreiber’s on Rye opened in late 2023 at Optimist Hall, taking the place of Xiao Bao. The New York-style deli that deems itself “Jew-ish” is serving up classic sandwiches, hot dogs and more.

1501 South Mint is closing up its outdoor space for the winter and opening new cigar and hookah bar called Shark Bar, QC Metro reported. You can bring your own cigars, or purchase them there.
Shipley Do-Nuts

Three locations of Shipley Do-Nuts are set to open in the Charlotte area, with the first one heading to Concord in fall 2024. The Texas-based chain founded in 1936 sells more than 60 varieties of doughnuts, along with Texas-style kolaches filled with meat and cheese.
Siano’s Pizza & Pasta

Siano’s Pizza & Pasta is planning a 2024 opening in Waxhaw, bringing flavorful items such as a BBQ Chicken Pizza Pie and a Nutella dessert pizza.

North Carolina’s first location of The New York-based pizzeria opened in Morrisville a few years ago. Now, a location will be opening in Charlotte, bringing hot, fresh pizza with dough made daily.
Sixty Vines

Wine-focused restaurant Sixty Vines has brought a 60-tap system to its Vantage South End restaurant, featuring high ceilings and local art. Shareables, small bites and seasonal entrées inspired by vineyards are on the menu.
Skyview 22

Skyview 22, a Black-owned food truck turned restaurant, opened in January inside the Walmart on Callabridge Court in northwest Charlotte. Look for soul food plates like fish and collard greens, along with burgers and salads.
Slim Chickens

Arkansas-based Slim Chickens opened a new Charlotte-area location March 22 as part of the second phase development at Springfield Town Center in Fort Mill. The restaurant at the Harris Teeter-anchored shopping center off Springfield Parkway offers chicken tenders, wings, sandwiches, waffles and more.
Slutty Vegan

The details are largely up in the air, but the popular pop-up option that started out as an Atlanta food truck plans to open a new location. “Charlotte has always supported us since day one and every single time that we come, there is a line down the block,” owner Pinky Cole told CharlotteFive in June.
Cole told the Washington Post that she searches for areas that are food insecure, lacking in vegan options and generally not attractive to developers.
Smooth Monkey
Location: Strawberry Hill at Fairview and Providence roads
Smoothie shop Smooth Monkey plans to join the Strawberry Hill Shopping Center in a 1,298-square-foot space in January, becoming the locally owned brand’s second store in Charlotte. The original location, located on Commonwealth Avenue in Plaza Midwood, opened in 2019.
Sol’ Delish

The well-loved small plates restaurant Soul Gastrolounge, which closed amid rising rents in Plaza Midwood, has plans to reopen in the new mixed-use development The Pass. In the meantime, it’s still cranking out a variety of skewers and its pork belly tacos while operating as a food truck.

State of Confusion

Soon after the opening, Suffolk Punch announced a third location was underway at Birkdale Village in Lake Norman.
Sully’s Steamers

Sugar Lounge

Charlotte’s first alcohol-free bar opened in March in Uptown Charlotte, just steps away from the Spectrum Center. The bar has a full menu of mocktails, plus hookah, pastries and coffee in the morning and live music and events at night.
Summit Coffee

Plans for a new Summit Coffee location in Lake Norman are under way. “Summit is coming to Cornelius. Get hyped,” the Davidson-based coffee shop said via Instagram. The new shop will be on NC 115, also called North Main Street, near Food Lion and Habitat for Humanity, across the street from Main Street Veterinary Hospital.
Sweetgreen

West Coast chain Sweetgreen signed a lease with Crescent Communities for a 2,900-square-foot space at One Independence Centerand expects to open in summer 2024. SWIRL

Sycamore Brewing

True Food Kitchen

Full-service restaurant and bar True Food Kitchen is opening in early 2025 at Linea South End, a new mixed-use residential tower on Hawkins Street. This new space will have both outdoor and indoor seating options that customers can enjoy along with True Food Kitchen’s focus on nutrient-dense staples and superfoods.
Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar

Asheville-based Tupelo Honey will open its newest location in Christenbury Village in Concord in fall 2024. The restaurant will have a 5,779-square-foot space with a patio, according to developer MVP.
Tutti

Tutti, a gelato spot that switches up its menu weekly, opened in the former Central Coffee location in South End, Axios Charlotte reported. Look for flavors including Amaretto Disaronno, Hazelnut Cremino and Pistachio.
Uptown Yolk

The Yolk has lived a few lives. It was born in Rock Hill, moved into 7th Street Market as Uptown Yolk and now has reopened in South End to join the food options at The Vantage South End. Head there for brunch of chicken and waffles or dinner, and you’ll also find a new coffee program and a full bar.
Urban District Market

Urban District Market — a new food hall — is now open in Charlotte’s Optimist Park neighborhood, with six restaurants and seven more on the way. Food stalls at UDM include Crispy Patty (Katsu sandwiches), HC Burger Company, LaBARatory (a bar and soju distillery from the team behind Seoul Food), The Rare Butcher (steaks), Stick Street (street food on a stick) and Stuffed (dumplings).
US Fried Chicken

Walnut Grill

Walnut Grill, a Pittsburgh-based restaurant, is now open in South Charlotte. Expect upscale food in a casual setting, and a 50-seat patio that could expand in the future.
Waterman Fish Bar

Paul Manley, co-owner of High Tide Hospitality, told the Charlotte Observer that The Waterman Fish Bar will open a third location at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in Concourse C by early 2024. The 3,000-square-foot space will be a full-service restaurant with the same feel as the Waterman’s other two restaurants.
Whataburger

A Charlotte location — or two — of the wildly popular Texas-based chain Whataburger isn’t a sure thing. However, plans filed with the city showed a “Whataburger Conversion of Former Bank” for the South Boulevard spot and mentioned utilizing the drive-thru where a previous Sun Trust Bank location stood. City filings for construction of another location at Clear Creek Crossing have popped up, as well. It’s a waiting game to see if those plans materialize.
Wheelz Pizza

Wildroots Coffee

Wildroots Coffee closed its previous Winnifred location in March and opened a new one in April, Axios Charlotte reported. The shop started out as a coffee truck and grew into a brick-and-mortar space.
New Yafo Kitchen concept

Restaurateur Frank Scibelli has plans to expand the Yafo Kitchen brand — focused on Mediterranean food — with a new full-service concept, Charlotte Business Journal reported. A lease has not yet been signed for the unnamed restaurant.
Yama Asian Fusion

A new location of Yama Asian Fusion is expected to open in South End, Unpretentious Palate reported. Look for sushi and dishes from sister restaurant Baku, as well.

A yet-unnamed restaurant from the same owner as Yama Asian Fusion is planned with a combination of French and Japanese dishes, Unpretentious Palate reported.
Yiding Hot Pot
Location: 10610 Centrum Pkwy, Pineville, NC 28134
Yiding Hot Pot is now open at The Centrum at the former Pineville location of Jason’s Deli, which closed in October 2020. The Chinese hot pot restaurant offers robot servers to bring your dishes tableside, along with a sauce and toppings bar.
Zämbies Pizza
Location: 3204 N Davidson St, Charlotte, NC 28205
Zämbies Pizza opened in early December in the former NoDa home of Ruby’s Gift Shop. The menu is tightly edited to just eight pizza selections and garlic knots, with a rotating special. Yet fans of pineapple on pizza will be pleased with two choices: Hawaiian or Sleeping Beauty, with onions, mushrooms, Canadian bacon, red peppers, pineapple and pepperoni.
