A transformation is taking place at the uptown art deco landmark Latta Arcade, set to become an elevated street eats destination called The Alley at Latta Arcade. The first of its new tenants to open will be Wentworth & Fenn, set to start serving breakfast sandwiches, scones and other baked goods on Friday, June 16, at 9 a.m.

“Having the opportunity to be a part of The Alley, Latta Arcade’s next chapter, and the effort to continue to attract patrons to Uptown is an honor,” said owner Samantha Ward. “Stop by for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon pick-me-up. We look forward to bringing our version of sugary magic to Uptown.”

You’ll find treats you recognize from the bakery’s Camp North End location, such as its Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Bourbon Butter Oatmeal Creme Pies and Salted Caramel Bread Pudding, plus more savory items, including fresh bread. The beverage program includes coffee drinks, sparkling tea, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages.

Other tenants coming to The Alley include:

  • A new concept from The Dumpling Lady in late 2023, serving its signature dumplings along with a rotating selection of traditional Sichuan cuisine.
  • A second Latta storefront from Felix Empanadas, called Carnales. Look for tortas, quesadillas, alambres and breakfast tacos when the space — already under construction — opens this summer.
  • Gather Flower Studio, offering locally-sourced flower designs.

Northpond also seeks to add more tenants. including a cocktail bar, coffee bar and taproom.

Plans call for restoring the building’s historic character while adding modern design updates. It was built in 1914.

“Latta Arcade is a place of history and appreciation in Charlotte and we look forward to building upon that storied reputation,” said Sam Ankin, founder and managing principal for Northpond Partners.

Southwick Architecture + Interiors is overseeing the building’s interior design. The Plaid Penguin developed the name and brand for The Alley and will carry out environmental graphic design and communications.
