The team behind The Goodyear House is opening a cocktail bar next door called Chief’s in early 2024.

The early 1900s mill house will be converted into a 50-seat, 1,800-square-foot space that will include bar and lounge seating, plus a small outdoor garden.

Built On Hospitality beverage director Bob Peters is at the heart of the Chief’s concept — the bar’s name pays homage to his late father, whose grandchildren lovingly called Chief. The cocktail bar is an ode to Chief and his wife, Marmee, who were known for their Southern hospitality.

The cocktail bar’s menu and atmosphere will be crafted to reflect Chief’s simple, elegant style, with seasonal cocktails featuring locally sourced ingredients and light bites similar to what Chief and Marmee served to friends and family while entertaining.

“It was important to me that this new concept encompasses my dad’s witty, dry, thoughtful personality, as well as my mom’s heart and Southern charm,” Peters said. “To honor my parents in this way is a dream come true. They taught me everything I know about hospitality, and I wouldn’t be the man I am today without them. I’m beyond grateful to the Built On Hospitality team for helping make my vision come to life.”

Peters, a renowned mixologist, won numerous awards for his work at Ritz Carlton of Charlotte, including the 2015 Global Bartender of the Year for The Ritz-Carlton Corporation. He has also been a featured mixologist at the James Beard House in New York City, Charleston Wine & Food, Atlanta Food & Wine Festival and the Cayman Cookout hosted by Eric Ripert, José Andrés and Anthony Bourdain.
