Restaurateurs Joe and Katy Kindred, known for the wildly popular Kindred, Hello, Sailor and Milkbread restaurants, have two new projects in the works: Albertine and a new Milkbread location. Both are headed to Duke Energy Plaza in uptown Charlotte in 2024, along with a few other restaurants.

Albertine — a full-service fine dining venture — will serve contemporary cuisine inspired by the greater Mediterranean basin and the American South, with highlights from Joe Kindred’s classical training and wood-fire cooking experience. The restaurant is named after the mother of Queen Charlotte, Duchess Elizabeth Albertine.

“I love the cadence of fine dining,” Katy Kindred said. “When you can thread the needle of the elegance, mechanics and rhythm of proper fine dining with a relaxed, intimate, unfussy style, you have — in my opinion — created restaurant magic. That is our desire for Albertine.”

She will lead the design, service and overall vision for the guest experience at Albertine, while chef Joe Kindred — a five-time semifinalist for the James Beard Award: Best Chef Southeast — will head up the culinary side of operations.

“As a Charlotte native, I am so proud to contribute to our city’s already rich culinary landscape,” Joe Kindred said. “We feel a deep sense of responsibility to create something special in the heart of this growing, vibrant city. We are extremely grateful for this opportunity.”

The Kindreds also opened their third location of all-day café Milkbread in the Duke Energy Plaza in early September. Expect to see the concept’s most popular menu highlights, including including milkbread doughnuts, espresso made with HEX Coffee and crispy chicken sandwiches. Bowls, salads and more will also be available.

Other restaurants coming to Duke Energy Plaza will include a second location of Que Fresa Taqueria + Bar and Somi Sushi.
