Caribbean flavors, Neapolitan-style pizza are on the way to Gibson Mill Market

Two new options for hungry people browsing around Gibson Mill Market in Concord are opening soon — Livy’s Neapolitan Pizzeria and Mi Isla, Island Cuisine.

The additions to the former textile mill turned food hall round out a growing lineup of cuisine available at the bustling development. Diners can stop by for a drink and play a game, grab a cookie while they browse antiques or sit down to enjoy a full meal.

Here’s what we know about the new restaurants:

Livy’s

Livy’s, opening Monday, Aug. 7, is a pizzeria from the team behind Heist Brewery and Heist Brewery and Barrel Arts. The restaurant’s Neapolitan-style pizza is baked in an Italian brick oven, creating a charred crust to compliment the flavors.

Menu options include a Margherita pizza with San Marzano pomodoro, oregano, buffalo mozzarella, aged Parmesan and freshly torn basil; and the Carnivoro with San Marzano pomodoro, proscuitto de parma, cured calabrese, sweet Italian sausage, mozzarella, provolone, shaved Parmesan and Calabrian chili oil.

“The dough and the texture really set it off,” owner Kurt Hogan told The Charlotte Observer last March, when the opening was first announced.

Mi Isla, Island Cuisine

Mi Isla, Island Cuisine is a new venture from Dennis Rhea, owner of Bad Mother Smokers BBQ, which caters competition-style barbecue. Construction on its space at Gibson Mill Market will begin this week.

The menu includes Caribbean classics such as jerk chicken with rice and gandules (pigeon peas), Mojo pork with tostones, mofongo and Cuban sandwiches.

“Mi Isla’s mission is to create an immersive and memorable dining experience that leaves a lasting impression on every visitor, and to help people from the Caribbean remember their roots when they taste the authentic flavors from home right here in Concord, North Carolina,” Rhea said.

Other food and drink options open at the market now include:
