Wheelz Pizza’s South End location opens, serving up sourdough crusts and organic sauce
If you’re like us, about once a week or so you get a craving for Wilmington-based Wheelz Pizza’s sourdough pies made with organic tomato sauce.
And, if you’re like us, then you’ll find this news exciting: Wheelz has announced that its South End location, its second in Charlotte, is now open.
Its first Charlotte location opened in Midtown in September. It offers takeout and delivery (no dine-in) at that location. Since then, it has become a favorite around town — even landing a spot in the Top 4 of CharlotteFive’s Readers’ Choice Best Pizza contest last month.
The South End location will have a few tables for in-person dining.
Sourdough fans, you’ll be happy to know that not only is the pizza made with sourdough, but so are the restaurant’s garlic parmesan-topped breadsticks (go for the cheesy option!), chocolate chip cookies and cinnaminis. Gluten-free crusts are also available.
Check out the pizza of the month for May: Pomodori Margherita includes Wheelz signature organic pizza sauce topped with sliced Roma tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese. It is sprinkled with organic Sicilian oregano, grated aged Parmesan cheese and fresh basil, then topped with 100% extra virgin olive oil.
